LAUGHING AT GOD

There’s a couple of reasons why we laugh. We laugh because something is funny. We laugh because we feel nervous or embarrass. We laugh when it feels ticklish. We also laugh when we don’t believe what we just heard (“Ha! I don’t believe you!”).

Have you ever laughed at God in unbelief?

I’ll be the first to say that I have. Not audibly like the examples below, but I’ve had my moments of unbelief, thinking to myself, the chances of that happening is zero to none.

Genesis 18:1-15 tells us that, Sarah, Abraham’s wife, laughed silently when she heard the man say, “this time next year Sarah will have a son.”

If you didn’t know Sarah and Aabraham were VERY old and Sarah was WAY past childbearing age.

So, when Sarah heard this news, this promise of a son, straightaway, she laughed quietly in unbelief. She said to herself, “how can a worn-out woman like me enjoy such pleasure?”

What about this?

Matthew 9:18-26 tells us about a girl who had died. Then, Jesus came and he told the crowd that “the girl is not dead, she’s only asleep.” In response, the crowd laughed at him because they didn’t believe the words of Jesus.

Do you need to trust God today? Is there something you’re struggling to have faith for or to believe in? Ask God to help you with your unbelief.

Genesis 21 Sarah, in her old old age, gave birth to Isaac.

Matthew 9:25 Jesus took the girl by the hand and she stood up.
